SVWW narrow defeat to Champions in season finale

The 2020 football year is under way for SVWW. Following a 16-day winter break, the players underwent their first training session of the new decade on Monday afternoon. The sun was shining but temperatures were hovering around the zero mark as head coach Rüdiger Rehm and his charges gathered for the first session of the New Year.
"We need to work hard in the almost three weeks of preparation that lie ahead," said a delighted Rehm, who has a full complement of players at his disposal aside from Patrick Schönfeld, Jules Schwadorf, Marc Wachs and Jan-Christoph Bartels, who is already back on the training pitch completing an individual programme. "We need to continue to show the passion and mentality that sets us apart on the pitch. It is important that we continue to reinforce our defensive solidity, because that is the basis for our successes.”
Sidney Friede was training with the team for the first time – and the new signing seemed satisfied despite the freezing cold. “My first impressions are very good. I know lots of the lads already, which makes it a bit easier. The mood within the team is class and it was fantastic to be back out on the pitch.”
He was joined on the training pitch by two familiar faces who have been sorely missed of late. "Moritz Kuhn has once again completed major parts of team training, while Phillip Tietz is involved again following a long injury absence and feels like a new signing,” said Rehm, who was in positive spirits.
The team have their first friendly pencilled in for Saturday afternoon, with Regionalliga outfit Fortuna Köln set to be the opponents at the Halberg at 14:00 CET. Just three days later, on 14 January, the SVWW squad will board a plane to Oliva Nova on the Spanish coast for a winter training camp.
