Paul Fernie is leaving SV Wehen Wiesbaden. The Head of Scouting & Analysis is set to bring an end to his three and a half years at the club and move across the pond to join the New York Red Bulls. All parties have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.
“I owe SVWW a huge thanks for allowing me to take this step,” said Paul Fernie, adding: “I’ve had a wonderful time here, learned a lot and experienced a true highlight when we were promoted in the summer.”
“In Paul, we’re losing a top-class member of staff who has played a significant role in the development and importance of the Scouting & Analysis department at SVWW,” said Nico Schäfer, a spokesman for the management. “He’s been vital in ensuring that we now work at a significantly higher level in this field.”
The Englishman will be succeeded in the role by Daniel Ebbert, who is leaving his present job as Chief Scout at FC Hansa Rostock to joins the Red & Blacks.
“In Daniel Ebbert, we’ve identified a worthy successor who can follow in the footsteps of Paul Fernie and continue the great work he’s done,” Schäfer continued. “His appointment is the result of a detailed selection procedure by the entire sporting leadership together with Paul Fernie.”
The change has prompted a restructuring of the department, as part of which Philipp Gründler has been appointed to the position of Senior Scout & Analyst. An additional person will soon be appointed to strengthen the department.
Paul Fernie will officially bid farewell to the club prior to the home game against Holstein Kiel this Saturday.
