SVWW narrow defeat to Champions in season finale
Pros |
SV Wehen Wiesbaden need to dust themselves down and get ready to go again. They are in action against 1. FC Nuremberg – whom they will be facing for the third time in the 2. Bundesliga – this Saturday (30 November). Kick-off at the Max Morlock Stadium will be at 13:00 CET.
Personnel matters: Marcel Titsch Rivero did not recover in time to face Kiel last time out but he has since overcome his ankle injury and will be back in action in Franconia at the weekend. However, the Red & Blacks are still without the suspended Stefan Aigner as well as the injured Moritz Kuhn, Jules Schwadorf, Patrick Schönfeld, Marc Wachs, Arthur Lyska and Phillip Tietz. Marvin Ajani is expecting to return to training on Thursday having taken a leave of absence following a death in the family.
The scenario: “We obviously weren’t satisfied with what happened at the weekend,” declared head coach Rüdiger Rehm. The task now, he added, is to focus on preparing for the trip to FCN so as to ensure the Kiel game is “quickly put to the back of our minds”. The SVWW boss is expecting a totally different display from his charges on Saturday. “We need to show more initiative, more responsibility and more venom.”
Outlook: For Rüdiger Rehm, the priority remains to restore stability – although the coach did not confirm whether that would be in the form of a back four or five. “The way we approach the challenges is vital,” he continued. “We’re going to Nuremberg with the aim of bringing back the three points that are up for grabs.”
The opposition: “Nuremberg were on a negative run but after the 0-0 draw with Greuther Fürth and a good second half, they’re on the road to recovery,” said Rehm, adding: “We know that we’ll be up against an opponent that is seen as a promotion candidate and has a huge, huge amount of quality.”
What Manuel Schäffler had to say: “We fell short with everything we’d been doing well beforehand,” said ‘Cheffe’ as he reflected upon the defeat to his former club Holstein Kiel last time out. "We can’t change how that game went. As a team, we need to perform an awful lot better than that. We want to display the kind of qualities that make football so special.”
