SVWW narrow defeat to Champions in season finale
Pros |
SV Wehen ran out 3-0 winners in their first warm-up match in advance of the second half of the 2019/20 2. Bundesliga season. The match, played in front of around 400 spectators, was decided by goals from Tobias Schwede (64) and Manuel Schäffler (76, 78).
In Sidney Friede's first match in an SVWW shirt, it was the visitors from Cologne who had the first goalscoring opportunities of the match. However, their efforts in the 4th and 10th minutes posed no real threat for the SVWW reargauard. SVWW worked their way into the game more and more, and in the 18th minute, their first chance fell to Michel Niemeyer. The midfielder did well to get onto the end of a Guthörl cross from the right flank, but his effort from around 10 metres out flew just wide of the mark.
Jeremias Lorch then had a pop from 18 metres out, with his shot fizzing wide of Cologne goalkeeper Rauhut's post. On the half-hour mark, it was Knöll's chance to have a go: his attempt also ended up missing the target. Just before half-time, Niemeyer once again came close to scoring when he met an Ajani cross with a powerful header. With the SVWW defence giving nothing away down the other end, the two sides went in at the break with the score tied at 0-0.
Both teams made several changes at the break. The first chance of the second half came in the 47th minute, with Dams getting his head to a Dittgen corner but failing to direct it goalwards. In the 62nd minute, it seemed like the deadlock would be broken, but Shipnoski, Kyereh and Dittgen were unable to make the most of the promising situation.
However, the goal finally came two minutes later: Titsch Rivero played a smart pass to play in Tobias Schwede, who kept his composure to finish with aplomb and give the home side a 1-0 lead. Not long afterwards, Dittgen came agonising close to doubling the SVWW lead.
Chances were hard to come by in what remained of the match, with SVWW continuing to have the better of the encounter. In the 76th and 78th minutes, Manuel Schäffler popped up to score a rapid-fire brace. The first came from the penalty spot after a foul on Kyereh, while the second came after a Mrowca shot was deflected into his path. A highly-deserved 3-0 win for SVWW.
