SVWW narrow defeat to Champions in season finale
Pros |
Friday night, floodlights, home game. SV Wehen Wiesbaden will play host to the Kleeblätter from Fürth in the BRITA Arena on 21 February. Kick-off for the game #SVWWSGF is at 18:30 CET.
Personnel matters: Good news: Stefan Aigner is back in training and available for selection again. The SVWW injury list is also looking far better in general. Head coach Rüdiger Rehm can draw on the full squad, apart from Bartels, Schönfeld, Schwindorf and Wachs, who are still recovering. "We're looking at what's best for the game ahead, who is pushing to play. I also expect some pressure to come from the bench and everyone to give it their all – there are positive signs."
Scenario: The two 0-1 defeats against VfL Bochum and Regensburg would without question fall into the category "wasteful". If we had shown the effectiveness of the past few weeks on the day and had not allowed our opponents to score through our own mistakes, we would not have left the pitch as losers."
Outlook: "We have an interesting game ahead of us – we have always played well under floodlights in particular." Both teams are going into Friday night with two defeats in a row. "Our morale is unbroken," Rehm said, looking forward to the match. "We will stay stable and positive. We are still looking ahead and know the situation. Looking back at where we were at the same point in the first half of the season, we can see that we have to keep going. And the boys will march on."
The opposition: The Kleeblätter played very well in the first half of the season. The two defeats in the last two games seem to have stopped their climb up the table for now, leaving them on 31 points. Rehm showed great respect to the opponents: "On Friday night, we will play one of the strongest teams in the Bundesliga 2. Fürth have the potential to play at a high level. For us, this means that we have to be well organised, aggressive and strong. We want to try to take the fun out of football for the opponent," said Heinz Lindner: "It is different if you have gone off the pitch as a clear loser without a chance. But that was not the case in the last two games. We have to keep working and make consistent use of the chances to win the game on Friday," said Lindner. "We know what adjustments we need to make and we know that we are able to do that. That knowledge gives us confidence. If we do that, we have a good chance of winning on Friday night."
Man of the match: As usual, you have the opportunity to choose the man of the match. Simply vote in the match centre on the SVWW website between kick-off and midnight on match day and you could win a shirt signed by the man of the match!
